As everyone involved in powerboat racing tries to come to terms with the tragic loss of the lives of Mohammad Al Mehairi and Jean-Marc Sanchez, competitors, team members and friends gathered at Mina Seyahi to honour their lost friends.
In a fitting and emotional tribute to Mohammad and Jean-Marc, who earlier in the year clinched the 2009 European Championship, all raceboats carried the number 1 on a lap around the inside of Palm Island before gathering at the site of yesterday’s crash.
The tributes were led by Saeed Hareb, President of the UAE Marine Sports Federation, accompanied by Jean-Marc’s widow Sara, who, along with all the competitors, team members and friends scattered wreaths and flowers on the water to commemorate the memory of Mohammad and Jean-Marc.
